Frequently Asked Questions

Divide both numbers by their greatest common divisor (GCD). For example, 4:6 has GCD of 2, so divide both by 2: 4÷2 : 6÷2 = 2:3.

Add the ratio parts together, then divide each part by the total and multiply by 100. For 2:3, total is 5. Percentages: (2/5 × 100) = 40% and (3/5 × 100) = 60%.

Multiply both parts of the ratio by the same number. For example, to scale 2:3 by 4: (2×4):(3×4) = 8:12. This maintains the same proportion.

A ratio compares two quantities (2:3 means 2 parts A to 3 parts B). A fraction represents a part of a whole (2/5 means 2 out of 5 total parts).
