Frequently Asked Questions
Formula: Required Final = (Target Grade - Current Grade × (1 - Final Weight)) / Final Weight. Example: Current 85%, want 90%, final worth 30%: (90 - 85 × 0.70) / 0.30 = 101.67%. You'd need 101.67% (not possible without extra credit).
If the calculator shows over 100%, your target grade is mathematically impossible without extra credit. Consider a lower target grade or check with your professor about extra credit opportunities.
Higher final weight means it has more impact. With a 50% final, you can change your grade dramatically. With only 20%, the final has less impact on your overall grade.
It depends on the weight distribution. Use the calculator: if you got 60% on a midterm worth 30% and want an A (90%), with a final worth 40% and other work at 90%, you'd need: (90 - 60×0.30 - 90×0.30) / 0.40 = 90% on the final. Challenging but possible!
